Materials and Finishes

This module will first introduce a range of standard materials available in the industry and lead to an understanding of the nature of materials, its properties, its visual qualities, its impact to the environment, its reaction to different finishes, its applications, use and care with a given emphasis on designer selection and specification. Further topics incorporated within the module will also encourage students to explore newly developed materials (aka smart materials) and other aspects of applications, such as aesthetics and perception.
